Do you have a degree in the field? You don't need a degree in exercises sciences to be a personal trainer but it is always beneficial to work with someone who has that knowledge.
What do you do for continuing education hours? All personal trainers must take continuing education courses to maintain licensure. Does the trainer actually take hands-on courses that will help them to grow and increase their knowledge or just filler online courses to get CEU credits?
What is your body view? Chiropractors, massage therapists, personal trainers, orthopedic surgeons all have their specific scope of practice and that determines how they choose to work with someone.
What is your definition of exercise? Personal trainers define exercise differently and it is going to greatly change how they approach programming for personal training.
Not all trainers will bring the same skill level to your workout. You want to choose a trainer who is educated, skilled and has experience so they can work with you towards the results you want without causing injury.
